Exciting young talent like Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, and Peter Som (who was recently tapped to helm the venerated label Bill Blass) have put the buzz back in American fashion over the last few years. But before these youngsters were even born, great American designers Norman Norell and James Galanos were creating innovative, beautifully cut eveningwear that gave the finest French couturiers a run for their money.
