ROUND TWO

When we first posted this cream Lanvin cocktail dress, we knew it would be a favorite with fashionistas hitting the awards season red-carpets. Today we are thrilled to announce that we have gained another of these lovely cream goddess gowns. If you would like to see this amazing gown's first and second appearance click here and here.

Made of silk satin, this dress befits an array of formal occasions. The ruching on the bust and waist compliments the midnight blue cascade that ideally fits around the neck. Whether wearing the cascade's bow at the shoulder for added drama or the nape, for the perfect over-the-shoulder pose, you're bound to be a stunning red-carpet favorite. We can't wait to see who takes advantage of round two.

Swirl Whimsy

Louis Feraud once said "a dress is like a caress, and that is a declaration of love." This French designer has dressed the Parisian elite since the 1950s. However, it wasn't until Brigitte Bardot was spotted wearing his designs in Cannes that his designs gained international notoriety. He established an American following in the 80s once his suits and dresses hit the airways of TV series Dallas.

The Haute Couture pink dress below is ruched and gathered in all the right places. Swirl detailing on the bust and below the hip provide both a whimsical effect and focal point for this design. A medium dress length makes it ideal for vary heights. Whether you're attending a wedding, garden party, or simply love to collect vintage, we think you'll find this dress designed with you in mind.

MAD AT YOU

We are really not mad at you. Rather, we are madras at you and we hope you might be a little madras at us, too. You should be mad and madras about this Claire McCardell by Townley madras dress that is so perfect for this time of the year when cotton is your friend! McCardell's iconic hook and eye closure is evident at the front of the dress and the modified dolman sleeves have a beautiful fold over at each shoulder. Although the red belt is not original, we quite like it together and picture the 21st century owner wearing the dress with Lanvin ballet flats or Christian Louboutin Delfin Platform Espadrille Wedges, our personal favorites. Come to think of it, the delightful Chanel wicker bag we posted yesterday would by the perfect should accessory to accompany this dress, along with some large sunglasses, of course.

Claire McCardell clothes by Townley madras print cotton day dress, c. 1950s. Modern size 4 to 6. (sold with red belt that is not original) SOLD

CALLING ALL MAENADS

Okay one really doesn't need to be a maenad to wear this Madame Gres Haute Couture turquoise blue 50s goddess draped chiffon evening dress, but don't be surprised if you have a penchant to drink too much and dance like a mad woman while wearing this very Bacchus-friendly concoction. Madame Gres better than any other 20th century designer knew how to drape for the goddess in every woman using classical techniques evocative of Greek statues. This boned and corsetted gown has a dramatic bodice of turquoise and white fringed beads that are further enhanced with emerald rhinestones. A single cascade of chiffon over one shoulder is a pre-requisite signature of Gres and the pleats over the hip reveal a tapered skirt. Why you might start a Dionysian orgy when wearing this gown to a gala!

BASKET CASE

We have the bag for you for right now. This Chanel basket weave rattan shoulder bag is perfect for those who crave Chanel but want something that celebrates all things spring and summer. Of course, we all love a black quilted leather classic Chanel bag, but this particular Chanel bag is rather novel yet functional and all ready for a spring fling, or, a picnic in a park, or, a luncheon along a cobblestone cafe. Furthermore, this is a ideal vessel to carry your leftovers rather than in a typical "doggy bag"!

ACQUA DI BALENCIAGA

You may have heard of Acqua di Gio, but have you heard of Acqua di Balenciaga? This is a Cristobal Balenciaga Haute Couture gown in aqua (get the pun?) gazar featuring an intricate top of metallic embroidery with crystals and silver pearls. Between the gorgeous color, classic silhouette, and sophisticated metallic embroidery and applications, this is a gown that creates a "moment" of red carpet flawless glamour. Wear you hair in a chignon, your lips red, and a Vivier metallic pump and disappear into a world of high glamour and Haute Couture. It's a dying world, but we are bringing it back one gown at a time!

PINS AND NEEDLES

A few months ago Daniel made a display of Chanel camellia brooches that caused an absolute sensation in the blogosphere when we posted his display. The image was downloaded by countless fashionistas (probably at least three) and history was made. Well, he's done it again, but now he has a leather fetish and is munching on safety pins! Not really, but we do have a treasure trove of Gianni-era Versace Medusa and safety pin belts (we have a wonderful early 90s Versace deadstock safety pin bag to post shortly) that are a great addition to your wardrobe and certainly unexpected. Yes, we always love a great Chanel or YSL belt, but Gianni had a wonderful way with studs (in very many ways), coins, medallions, and of course his beloved safety-pins (which Christopher Kane is wisely manipulating in his current Versus designs). Come to the store and see all the pins and needles in person!

WHERE'S THE BIEFF?

We got your Bieff right here! Yes, another Neil Bieff paillette top. This one is in bronze paillettes with accents of silver, rust, and black in a scoop-neck, cropped, and side zipped silhouette that echos the vibe of today's Balmain but does it for around 5% of the cost of a Decarnin blinged out top. Terribly chic with white cigarette pants, dressed up with tuxedo trousers, and perfectly casual with a high-waisted, bell bottom denim jean, too. The slight shoulder pads give the top a little extra edge without making you look like a quarterback. Day or evening, we got your Bieff.

Neil Bieff for Saks Fifth Avenue bronze paillette/sequin top, c. late 1970s. Marked size S, modern size 2 to slim 6. (some paillettes have shifted from wear and we like how it looks so do not intend to change it)

SOUTH OF THE EQUATOR

Sunday in Buenos Aires it will be 47 degrees and rain is expected. Just because we are North of the equator doesn't mean we don't emphasize with those who are experiencing winter while we embrace the heat. At the same time, the monthly fashion bibles will be shipping their big September issues shortly filled with miraculous winter fashions and temptations, so no matter where you reside, we think a little cool weather fashion might just be right on time. This Gianfranco Ferre black wool sweater dress is body conscious, practical, and has a touch of gilt, in the form gold metal bars placed over each gold lurex cuff (the lurex peaks out between each gold bar). This is what we call a perfect dress for travel. Roll into your Tumi and wear it with boots for a boring board meeting and with heels and sexy hose (channel a Robert Palmer video vixen) to celebrate your promotion later in the evening!
